The Toshiba PC-G50R is a vintage stereo cassette deck released around 1983. It was designed during an era when Toshiba was heavily competing in the "slimline" component market, offering a sleek, low-profile aesthetic without sacrificing professional features like auto-reverse.

1. Audio Performance & Tape Support

  • Auto-Reverse System: Features the ability to play and record in both directions. This was a "set it and forget it" luxury feature for the early 80s, allowing for continuous playback of both sides of a tape.

  • Tape Compatibility: Supports all four major tape formulations of the era:

  • Noise Reduction: Equipped with Dolby B noise reduction, which was the industry standard for reducing tape "hiss" during quiet passages.

2. Operational Features

  • Soft-Touch Transport: Unlike the clunky mechanical "piano key" buttons on older 70s decks, the PC-G50R uses light-touch electronic buttons for Play, Record, and Stop.

  • Peak Level Meters: Features 12-segment LED level meters (often in green and red) to help you set the perfect recording levels and avoid distortion.

  • Record Mute: Includes a dedicated button to create silent gaps between songs, which is essential for making clean "mixtapes."

  • Timer Standby: Allows the deck to start playing or recording automatically when connected to an external power timer.
