Allegro ALGC402 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR Stereo Video Recorder
The Allegro ALGC402 is a vintage 4-head Hi-Fi Stereo VHS VCR that was actually manufactured by Zenith. While "Allegro" was a sub-brand for Zenith (similar to how Funai manufactured units for Magnavox), this model is well-regarded for its high-quality audio and specific "EZ" features that made it easier to use than standard early-90s decks.

1. Audio & Video Performance
-
4-Head System: Provides a stable, clear picture during "trick play" modes like freeze-frame and slow motion.
-
Hi-Fi Stereo: Capable of recording and playing back high-fidelity stereo sound, making it a great choice for watching action movies or music-heavy tapes.
-
19-Micron Heads: Optimized for a clearer picture even in EP (Extended Play) mode, which was often grainy on cheaper 2-head VCRs.
2. "EZ" Convenience Features
Zenith marketed this line with several automated "EZ" features designed to save time:
-
EZ Skip (Commercial Skip): A dedicated button on the remote that allows you to jump ahead in 30-second increments (pressing it 1, 2, 3, or 4 times skips 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds respectively).
-
EZ Record: Uses Instant Timer Recording (ITR) to start a recording and set it to turn off automatically in 30-minute increments (up to 4 hours).
-
Auto Tracking: Automatically adjusts the video signal for each tape to minimize noise and "snow."
